How does Ms. Fortier exercise specific teaching methods in her classroom at The Founders Academy?
Today is the last day in the series we asked our teachers: "How do you exercise the teaching methods of project based learning, debates, and Harkness and Socratic style discussions in your classroom at The Founders Academy?" Today's post on the subject is from Ms. Fortier, a Founders art teacher.

Ms. Fortier:

I mostly practice Project Based Learning and the Harkness style of teaching in my classroom.  Here's how:

PBL: The nature of an art class is project based learning. Students investigate a part of art history and create a project based off of this. The hands-on art making process helps to reinforce information learned about art history.

Harkness Method of Teaching: I practice the Harkness model of teaching in my classroom when we do formal critiques. Students present their work and all gather around in a circle around the work. They are encouraged to look at the piece from many angles and then we critique it discussing what is working and offering helpful suggestions. Many students have really found this to be helpful and fun. They encouraged and helped each other and they were given the opportunity for revision.
