Founders Academy Library Named after Maureen Mooney

MANCHESTER, NH - The Founders Academy Public Charter School's Board of Trustees rededicated its library to the school's first Dean, Maureen Mooney, on May 29, 2020. In a small gathering in the school's library, Mooney was shown the plaque for display outside the library with the words: "The Honorable Maureen Mooney Library of the Founders Academy. Our first Dean, Ms. Mooney, built the school with love, courage and conviction. No idea was too big and no task too small for this great lady."  The bronze plaque displays an image of the American flag.

Under Mooney's leadership as Dean of School, Founders Academy built its high school, grew the faculty and student body, and advanced the school's mission. She was known for her dedication to students, commitment to education, catch-phrases, and memorable style including her "mobile desk." Last November, Mooney announced her departure from Founders at the end of the 2019-2020 school year having been at the school since 2014.

Bob Best, the Chairman of the School's Board, said "One of Dean Mooney’s favorite catch phrases is ‘One Dedicated Person’ meaning that moving ideas ahead takes one dedicated person, willing to lead that charge.  For six years at Founders, Dean Mooney has often been our ‘One Dedicated Person’ moving the Academy from the drawing board into its sixth successful year of operation."

Patty Humphrey, the Vice Chairman of the School's Board, said, "Dean Mooney built the school the state of New Hampshire has been waiting for, the one that roots children in American history and culture and prepares them for wise and informed citizenship."

Library Plaque"I am grateful for my time at Founders as it will always be a part of me now," Maureen Mooney said. "I look forward to watching Founders build on its success and serve students while staying true to its mission of educating young citizens."

Opened in 2014, The Founders Academy is a free public charter school for grades 6-12 located at 5 Perimeter Road in Manchester. The school's mission focuses on the virtues of the Founding Fathers, leadership, character building, and liberty. The school provides a challenging and classical academic program including, among other courses, U.S. history, economics, ethics, entrepreneurship and studies in leadership. In addition, there is a strong arts program featuring band, chorus and fine arts, as well as an ambitious curriculum of required and elective courses in standard high school subjects. Teacher and student-led learning includes cooperation, projects, debate, discussion and individual projects and internships. Established by The Founders Academy Foundation, the school offers individual attention for each student to pursue mastery in their studies.
